USGS 01334500 Hoosic R. near Eagle Bridge Interpreting Eagle Bridge Gage Readings: Multiply the Eagle Bridge flow by 1.254 to get the flow expected at Schaghticoke. Normally, when the flow becomes greater than the hydro plant's 1640 cfs capacity, the excess will spill into the gorge. For example: If Eagle Bridge is at 2000 cfs, expect flow at Schaghticoke to be around 2508 cfs, but only 868 cfs would spill into the gorge. For acceptable flow rates, the gorge can be separated into two sections: upper and lower. (See description below.) Because these two reaches are inseparable in the bypass reach from a flow perspective, the minimum acceptable and optimum boating flows need to be expressed in a range to represent both reaches.
Minimum flows in gorge: 800-1000 cfs
Optimum flows in gorge: 1200-1600 cfs
The amount taken in by the hydro plant may be altered during scheduled releases. For more information regarding gauge readings during releases, see the releases section below.
Caution: Any changes in flow, either naturally or through the hydro plant, will be greatly amplified in the narrow gorge.
