Gauge Description:

Smith Falls Hydro—208-267-2744
Check with the hydro guys to see what the flow is on Smith Creek above their diversion. If Smith Creek is around 600-800 you are good to go on Boundary Ck. Be sure the hydro guys give you the flows above their diversion. Smith Ck is runnable from 125 to 300 cfs. The power plant generally pulls 370 cfs from Smith Creek so a flow of 670 above the diversion would put Smith Ck in the high end runnable range at 300 cfs. Be sure to check with the power plant first. Smith Ck. is a handful at high water. Always thank the hydro guys for the information so that the next boater is able to get the info. as well.

In 2000 we ran Boundary Creek with the gage at 11.7. This is the lowest run I’ve ever done. Initially thought it would be a boney run but it turned out to be great. I typically run this 1 foot higher (based on observations of channel and takeout rocks because USGS has recently changed the gage so I don’t have a gage reference.) I’ll calculate this flow when USGS sends me a rating curve.
