Jay Kincaid

Hometown: Reno, Nevada

Favorite River: Lake Creek , Oregon

Sponsors: Jackson Kayak, The Biggest Little City in The World (Reno), Kokatat, At Paddles

Biography: Having spent well over half the days of his life on the water, Jays love has always been with the river first. His kayak has simply been what he believes to be the best way to maximize the fun that he has in that environment.

When Jays kayaking career first started his goal was to explore as many remote creeks and streams in Oregon as possible. Most of his time was spent in Creek Boats fascinated by what might be down stream around the next corner.

As boats evolved and freestyle became more popular Jay began to pursue new goals in that area, driven by the idea that it was simply a more fun way to get from the put in to the take out. After seeing video of the 1993 freestyle World Championships Jay then made it his goal to win a World Championship. For Jay though the best day of his life wasn’t the day he won the 2003 World Championship, rather it was all the other days that had led him to that point.

Jay considers himself a white water kayaker, period. Whether it is playing in a hole, surfing a wave, competing, playing down a local river, creek boating, or running some of the hardest white water on Earth, it is all fun to Jay, and he would be the first to show you that he can do it all equally as well.

AW Testimonial: I am a supporter of American Whitewater for the simple reason that they protect the rivers that I fell in love with 20 years ago. I believe that I have the opportunity to help educate people about the great recreational value of our rivers as well as the environmental issues that they all face.
