Twelvemile Creek Dam Removal (SC)

American Whitewater and Foothills Paddlers Volunteer Kevin Miller represented paddlers on a great project in South Carolina that led to the removal of two dams and tons of PCB laden sediment from Twelvemile Creek. A court order called for the removal of the dams however implementation lagged far behind schedule. The paddling community rallied to bolster public support for prompt removal. Kevin Miller created a document that carefully researched and presented the recreational potential of a restored Twelvemile River.

In 2011 two of three dams on the river were removed, revealing new paddling opportunities where for many decades the dams had blocked downstream river travel.
