About AW's Safety Program

Whitewater safety is central to our mission. Accident analysis (AW Accident Database) is the keystone to our success in focusing awareness on the most current whitewater safety issues and to providing ever evolving, safety guidelines (AW Safety Code). The AW Journal and now this web site, share the lessons learned from accidents and have been one of whitewater’s primary sources of information on the latest safety equipment and rescue procedures since 1954. We regularly advise legislative bodies and river managers on the best ways to educate whitewater users, which helps everyone enjoy our rivers safely. Formal risk management is part all of our program areas enhancing safety and reducing liability risks for all.
