River Description

Starting at the SR 2009 bridge, the action starts immediately with a 15 foot cascade which can be run on the right or in the middle. Around the bend is another good 15 foot slide also run down the right. After a pool, there is a steep series of ledges dropping another 15 feet. Soon, you will be out portaging around (on the right) a 40 foot falls onto rocks. Not far downstream, you will find a slide into an 8 foot ledge with some trees in the drop. The trees are avoidable but be careful.More small slides and ledges carry you the BIG attraction, Raymondskill Falls.
Raymondskill Falls is a series of 3 cascades/waterfalls dropping close to 150 feet. If you wish to walk around the whole shooting match, it is best to get out on the left, where there is a trail. The first falls is a 50 footer into a cliff on the left with a large tree that is wedged in the falls itself. Portage on the right. The second falls is a 40 foot cascade into a pool. This part is quite SIK but is runable. A lot of water hits the wall on the left so take care to stay in the middle. The third falls is a junky lipped 40-50 footer into a shallow pool. Portage using the trail on the left.
From the bottom of Raymondskill Falls to Rt. 209 (the last 1/4 mile), the creek mellows to continuous Class 1-2. The calm finish gives little hint of the major broohaha that lies upstream!
