Upper: Montebello to first Rt. 56 bridge (tip-top-Tye)
Class V+
2 Miles
Avg Gradient 290 fpm
Max Gradient 420 fpm
River Description
This run is all about three things: 1)wood, 2)big drops, and 3)big woody drops. The second mile has a gradient of 420 - so you might expect something high. And you'd be right; there are four hard-core drops in there that will only appeal to the true creek-freek. After you pass the bible camp the river takes a bend to the north then swings back southeast. As the river makes another turn back to the left (east) the entrance rapids to the big cascades begin. There are 4 sik falls/slides. This is a rare and secluded run so if you catch it - and you have the skills - have fun! Oh yeah, the tip-top Tye is a nasty, cold, portage-fest in snow or ice, you might want to pick one of the other sweet Nelson/Amherst/Rockbridge creeks on those cold days. Please respect private property at all times.
Take-out: At the Rt. 56 bridge below Montebello.
Put-in: On Rt. 56 at what will look very much like a drainage ditch. If you can run the creek, you can find the put-in.
