Individual identified via a friend's Facebook post hoping for a miracle.

MONROE, N.H. (WCAX) - Authorities say the search for a fisherman who apparently drowned in the Connecticut River Wednesday has transitioned into a recovery mission.

New Hampshire State Police say they got a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday about people stranded on Nine Island at the junction of the Passumpsic and Connecticut Rivers in Monroe.

Littleton firefighters say three men were fishing when one of them noticed their boat was drifting away and went into the water to get it. The two other men tried to throw him a life jacket but he went underwater and didn’t resurface.

Rescue crews from Vermont and New Hampshire will continue their search Thursday morning.
