55-year-old man drowns in Salmon River trying to save dog

COTTONWOOD, Idaho — A 55-year-old man's body was found floating in the Salmon River.
Idaho County Dispatch says they received a call about a drowning on Saturday, July 23 near Pine Bar. A group of rafters advised a male in their group to swim out in the river and save a dog caught in the current.
Another group of rafters found a man floating face down in the river and tried lifesaving measures but were unable to revive him. They moved the body downriver and met with authorities.
The drowning victim was identified as Richard Scyphers from Lewiston. He was wearing his life jacket.
