Accident Description

07/19/2008 Associated Press

An 86-year-old man drowned while rafting on the Rogue River near Shady Cove. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters says the man fell into the river about 3:30 p.m. He was not immediately identified. "At this point we don't know if he stood up in the raft or if he fell out some other way," Winters said. Winters says the man was not wearing a life jacket. Passers-by heard the man's wife screaming for help. He was pulled from the river by deputies with the Jackson County sheriff's marine unit.
