Accident Description

WOMAN DROWNS ON NORTH FORK YUBA

DESCRIPTION: The Rosasco Canyon run on the North Fork of the Yuba is a popular class IV+ run. After a mellow lead-in, the run picks up with several big drops, including one which most people portage. On July 7, Tina Parly-Gillim, 27, was in a four-person raft that flipped in the first big drop and dumped everyone into the water. She and another person were pinned momentarily beneath an undercut rock before washing free. She floated out, face down, and hung up on a branch. Resuscitation began quickly, but she could not be revived.
