TOPEKA, Kansas - A Lawrence man who drowned Friday while kayaking the Kansas River in Topeka was a physician at a Topeka hospital. St. Francis Health Center president and CEO Robert Erickson issued a statement Saturday describing 36-year-old Ryan L. Moore as "rising star" in the organization. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Moore was certified in internal medicine and pediatrics.

City spokesman David Bevens tells The Topeka Capital-Journal and WIBW-TV that Topeka police identified Ryan L. Moore from the license plate on his truck that was parked near a boat ramp in the Oakland neighborhood. Moore's body was found Friday afternoon in the water about 300 yards downstream from the weir near the city's water treatment plant. Bevens says plant employees saw a person kayaking near the intake to the water plant, and later saw the kayak tumbling in the water.
