Accident Description

Long time kayaker and solid class 4 boater.  Was vacationing from Alaska. Details are sketchy. It appears he was kayaking alone, flipped and was swept into strainer. Raft found him and broke him loose but then got hung up. He was them found upside down downriver by another raft. Search and rescue was unable to revive him. Autopsy showed drowning as cause if death. A sad event. 

Kayaker dies after being found in White Salmon River

GOLDENDALE, Wash. — An experienced kayaker from Anchorage, Alaska, was declared dead Thursday afternoon shortly after being discovered unconscious in the White Salmon River near Husum, authorities say. Rafters tried to revive Robert S. Rossberg, 60, without success, according to a news release from Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office. Medics transferred him to Skyline Hospital, where staff declared him dead following treatment.

The sheriff’s office described Rossberg as an experienced kayaker and said he had been on the White Salmon River many times. An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death. According to one correspondent he was caught in a strainer.
