Silver Spring, MD - American Whitewater (AW) and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) have announced that river flow information for the North Fork of the Feather River is now available to the public via a toll-free flow phone line and on the AW website. The debut of flow information coincides with the initiation of predictable flow on the river, a revitalization of one of the most important recreational resources in California.
"This collaboration results from the agreements included in the relicensing of the North Fork of the Feather River Hydroelectric Project," notes John Gangemi, American Whitewater Conservation Director. "The North Fork offers boating opportunities from Class III to V in an outstanding aesthetic backdrop of pines and sierra granite. This settlement gives the public the opportunity to paddle the North Fork by providing an annual schedule of whitewater releases, accurate flow information and access improvements."
"Real-time and forecasted flow information for the North Fork is a great addition to American Whitewater's website," comments Dave Steindorf, local paddler and American Whitewater Regional Coordinator. "Boaters can now find all the information they need to plan a trip on the North Fork in the nationwide guidebook currently available on the AW website."
"This new partnership is one of the many beneficial outcomes of the collaborative process used for the new North Fork of the Feather River license," says Randy Livingston, director of hydroelectric generation operations at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. "This partnership will ensure continued generations of clean, renewable energy and support the recreational activities that are of value to the community."
