Where:  Original channel upstream from Xcel Energy's Jim Falls Hydro Project on the Chippewa River.  A spillway gate will be opened so peak flows occur at the old bridge area, midway down the channel.

When:  Whitewater flow releases will occur four times annually.  This year's dates are: July 10, 24, and August 14-15.  Releases are from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Flows:  650 cfs

Description:  This river segment is characterized as class II and Class III pool-drop rapids, requiring an intermediate to advanced skill level.  Boaters should be aware that there are inherent risks associated with whitewater boating and are encouraged to use common sense at all times.  This segment is also recognized as an important sturgeon spawning area and the dark shadows of the prehistoric fish can be viewed throughout the water water season.

Directions:  Xcel Energy's Jim Falls Hydro Project is located at the junction of County Highway Y and Highway 178, between Chippewa Falls and Cornell, WI.  The put-in location is upstream river right, in a pool at the old bridge.  There is an access trail located on the upstream side of the bridge.  The take-out location is downstream river right, approximately 300 yards from the County Highway Y bridge.  Parking is available at the put-in location.

Sign-in:  Please be sure to sign in at the put-in point as use is being monitored for further evaluation.
