The 2nd Annual S. Platte River Clean up took place in Denver, Colorado on Sunday, April 20th, 2008.  Started by friends Mark Cohen of KEEN and Randy Thompson of Down River Equipment in 2007, the event has grown into an annual gathering of friends and families all dedicated to keeping our waterways clean.  This years event was attended by nearly 180 volunteers who rafted, kayaked, and biked along seven miles of the S. Platte River as it winds through the urban corridor.  Some of the unusual finds removed from the riverway included a computer, two car bumpers, a couch, a cat, and many others which added up to the 4000 pounds of debris and trash removed from the waterway.  The event is sponsored by like minded companies such as KEEN, Down River Equipment, Confluence Kayaks, Clif Bar, Mission Playground, and New Belgium Brewery and supported by partners like the DU Kayak Club, Renaissance Adventure Guides, Leave No Trace, Outward Bound, Waste Management of Denver, and Denver Parks and Recreation.  Working together in a communal effort, the event provides an opportunity for those involved to share a greater appreciation for the beautiful and scenic rivers they normally paddle on while giving back to their own communities in a way that demonstrates their love for rivers everywhere.
