Ausable River Access Open for 2012

New York State Electric and Gas opened their gate to the Ausable River on May 25, 2012, and will continue to provide access through October 31, 2012.  Public access to this natural wonder is the direct result of a decade advocacy by American Whitewater and Adirondack Mountain Club.

NYSEG may  temporarily close their access area based on their perception of public safety, and when construction and maintenance activities require a closure.  Notice will be given when such conditions are expected to occur.

As you enjoy the Ausable river as it flows through Ausable Chasm, be sure to respect private property.  The Ausable Chasm Company does not allow access to their land from the river (public trust navigation rights, as defined by state law, end at the mean high water mark).  As this run is committing and often boxed in by canyon walls, paddlers are encouraged to patronize the Ausable Chasm Company and scout from their trails prior to running the river.

Enjoy!
