AW Volunteer Of The Month Presented By Kokatat : Christian Knight

American Whitewater is proud to recognize longtime Pacific Northwest paddling aficionado Christian Knight as our Volunteer of the Month for his efforts organizing an extremely successful clean-up at Eagle Falls on the Skykomish River in Washington state. Eagle Falls is a beautiful roadside attraction for a straightforward class V park and huck at low water or a frothy one drop rollercoaster at high water. The walls and boulders around the falls had become defaced by graffiti over time taking away from the natural beauty of a truly incredible place. 

Christian saw a problem that needed fixing and took the initiative to launch a campaign to clean up Eagle Falls. He could not have done it alone and we'd also like to thank Veronica Knight as well as Bill Corson with Outdoor Adventure Center for their efforts to get the heavy equipment on site needed to remove the graffiti. We’d also like to recognize Mike and Irene Nash for their longstanding support of our work in the Skykomish basin and the extra effort they put in to clean up this special place. A diverse group of paddlers answered the call to put in the elbow grease required to scrub the falls clean. The Forest Service manages the site and we would like to thank all the folks with the local ranger district for embracing this project and specifically Andy Bryden who helped plan the event and came out with us for the day. Finally Nick Baughman helped promote the event leading to robust participation.

 

In recognition of Christian’s work organizing this successful volunteer effort, he will be receiving a gift certificate from Kokatat!
