American Whitewater and Clif Bar are pleased to announce the 4th annual Clif Bar Flowing Rivers Campaign, pledging $2,500 to American Whitewater Affiliate Clubs for river stewardship work. Funding for this very effective program is provided by Clif Bar.

Clubs have the opportunity to apply for one of five (5) $500 grants. Grants will be distributed to clubs for projects that promote river stewardship, conservation, access and/or safety education on ’s rivers. This program provides Club Affiliates with the seed money necessary to implement programs in their backyards.

AW Club Affiliates will receive a box of Clif Bars for distribution among their members along with the grant application. Once received, grant applications will be reviewed by a grant committee consisting of Kevin Colburn, AW National Stewardship Director, Ben VanCamp, AW Outreach Director, Eric Neis, AW Safety Committee Chair, and a representative of Clif Bar, Inc.

2005 Clif Bar Flowing Rivers Grant Recipients

West Virginia Wildwater Association- Jenkinsburg Access Upgrade                  $1,000The

Jenkinsburg Access at the junction of the Cheat and Big Sandy Rivers is located roughly two hours south of Pittsburgh in Northern West Virginia. Sine the mid-1950’s it has served as the takeout for both the Cheat Canyon and Lower Big Sandy Rivers.

We propose to use your $1,000.00 grant to repair damage and create a safe, secure path for people to walk from the upper to the lower parking lot and on to the river. In the process, we will repair the severe erosion damage caused by ATV’s on the current trail. The completed job will cost somewhat more, and additional funding will be raised by donations from the paddling community.

Ozark Mountain Paddlers- James River Water Trail                                          $1,000

The Ozark Mountain Paddlers is partnering with Ozark Greenways to develop the communities first water trail on the James River.  The James River Water Trail will be a three mile long project utilizing two existing Missiouri Department of Conservation access points and tie into the MDC Nature Center and lands under management by the Springfield Park Board.

Friends of the Rivers of Virginia- Cushaw Project                                              $500

The Cushaw Project is a joint effort by FORVA and the Float Fisherman of Virginia to develop a new take out on the Balcony Falls section of the James River in Virginia.  This project will creat a new access point eliminating access concers for some of Virginia's greatest whitewater.
