2010 American Whitewater Gauley Fest Presented By Subaru Wrap-Up
Gauley Fest is American Whitewater’s biggest fundraising event and the largest boater festival in the world. This year’s event was another great success raising a significant amount of money for AW’s river stewardship work.
A huge thanks goes out to Subaru for being Gauley Fest’s title sponsor. Subaru has a long history as a favorite shuttle vehicle in the whitewater community, we’re glad they’ve chosen to add to this history via their support for Gauley Fest and American Whitewater. Thanks Subaru!
Likewise, we’d like to thank the many companies that made other significant contributions to the success of Gauley Fest; Adventure Technology Paddles, Chaco, Clif-Bar, Dagger, Girls at Play, Jackson Kayak, KEEN, Kokatat, LVM, Liquidlogic, NOC, Pyranha, Smith Optics, Werner Paddles and Yakima. Also, thanks again to the Nicholas County Veteran’s Memorial Park and the town of Summersville, WV for being our hosts.
It may come as a surprise to people to know that an event of Gauley Fest’s size, with well over 4,000 people attending, is put on with a nearly all volunteer team. AW has a staff of just 8 full-time employees. We’re joined each September by anywhere from 150-250 volunteers that help us put on this incredible event. All these awesome folks are lead by Volunteer Coordinator, Stacey Johnson of Hood River, OR. If it weren’t for the incredible efforts by all these people, we simply couldn't put on Gauley Fest. We’re sincerely in your debt, thank you!
Finally, remember that Gauley Fest will always be happening on the third weekend of September (which may or may not be the third release weekend on the Gauley River). So go mark September 16-17, 2011 as the dates for the next Gauley Fest. We hope to see you there!
