Big Rigs Threaten Idaho's Lochsa River

American Whitewater and Idaho Rivers United needs your help to protect the
wild and scenic values of the Lochsa and Middle Fork of the Clearwater
rivers.

These rivers are biological and recreational gems, but they are threatened
by multinational oil corporations that want permission to transport massive
loads of mining and refinery equipment from Lewiston, Idaho, via Highway 12
and over Lolo Pass to Montana.

The proposed "mega-loads" are gargantuan: 220 feet long, 24 feet wide, 30
feet high and up to 600,000 pounds. They will create a "rolling roadblock"
through the river corridor that will disrupt recreational opportunities,
threaten fish and wildlife species, destroy the visual splendor and impact
local economies. Additionally, the long-term impacts to the highway will
drastically shorten its lifespan and burden taxpayers with expensive repair
and replacement.  For additional perspective on the issue, please read the

article linked in the box on the right side of this page.

Idaho Rivers United is seeking affirmation from our members and the general
public that we represent your interest and desire to protect the Lochsa and
Clearwater rivers. Please simply take a couple of minutes to fill out this
short form. This will help us prove standing as we engage in the permitting
process for the proposed mega-loads.

To express your interest you don't need to be a member of IRU or be an Idaho
resident. IRU represents the interests of river lovers far and wide.

Thanks for your time!
