Removal of Twelvemile Creek Dam Began Today!

Removal began today of the first of two dams on South Carolina's Twelvemile Creek that are slated for demolition.  Removal of the second dam will occur this summer.  The removals will restore roughly two miles of Twelvemile Creek to its natural free-flowing condition.  AW Regional Coordinator Kevin Miller actively promoted the recreational values of the dam removal, which was mandated as part of a toxic waste cleanup court proceeding.

The removal activties will soon reveal the nature and quality of the rapids hidden from view for generations.   Obviously, as with all demolition sites, paddlers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area of the dam removals until removal activities are fully completed.
