2013 Gunnison Flow Survey is live. Share your thoughts & protect rivers!
April 30, 2013
American Whitewater (AW) is pleased to announce the launch of our 2013 Gunnison River Basin Flow Survey.
We need your help to define flows that support the full range of whitewater boating opportunities for the main stem and tributaries of the Gunnison River in Colorado. This survey is designed so individuals can evaluate flows for each targeted whitewater run. Your feedback will help us describe how flows affect recreation quality, and identify the range of flows necessary to support whitewater recreation experiences, from technical low water to challenging high water trips. The information you provide will help us protect and enhance flows for river-based recreational opportunities.
Your honest participation in this study will help American Whitewater inform future management of the Gunnison River basin, and build support for healthy river flows threatened by drought, development, and management policies.
If you are familiar with any sections of river within the Gunnison Basin, your participation is incredibly valuable. Also, please encourage your fellow paddlers to participate in this study. The more responses we get, the more robust our findings will be and the stronger our case for representing paddler interest.

Colorado River Access (CO)
The decades old debate over public use of waterways in Colorado continues, and AW is working to protect the rights of all paddlers to enjoy Colorado's Rivers.
Colorado River Basin Supply Study
American Whitewater's staff and contractors are working to develop quantitative metrics that help the US Bureau of Reclamation evaluate impacts to recreational stream-flows across the Colorado basin.
Colorado SWSI (CO)
Colorado's Statewide Water Supply Initiative may very well determine the fate of Colorado's whitewater rivers by dictating how much water can be removed from rivers to serve a growing population.
Gunnison Basin (Colorado) Stewardship Program
Our new Gunnison River Basin program will define and protect recreational flow needs as part of regional and broader Upper Colorado River Basin stewardship strategies. By quantifying flow needs in the
