American Whitewater and Vermont Paddling Club have filed a Motion to Intervene in hydropower relicensing application filed by Morrisville Water & Light for the Green River dam. We are asking FERC to require the utility to provide 8-10 annual releases on this scenic and challenging run in northern Vermont. AW & VPC have long been involved with the Green, having helped MWL conduct a Witewater Boating Study in 2011. The study showed that the Green is a valuable boating resource and that there is significant interest in the boating community in having scheduled boating opportunities. While MWL has agreed to provide two scheduled annual releases, we are seeking additional boating opportunities through the relicensing process. FERC is required to consider recreational use of the Green River along with power generation as part of the relicensing process. As intervenors, AW and VPC will be able to challenge a determination that does not adequately consider the potential for whitewater boating on the Green River.
