About Opening Day and Supporting American Whitewater and Bob Center

American Whitewater’s work to improve flows and protect rivers in California have paid off in this dry year. This spring, summer and fall, there will be over 30 releases on rivers such as the Mokelumne, Pit and Feather. The flows will be coordinated with flows that are used to generate hydropower, or deliver water to cities and farmers. Additionally, American Whitewater is responding to several proposals to construct new dams, which are heating up as the drought continues. Proceeds from Opening Day will benefit American Whitewater's work to protect and restore our whitewater rivers!

Proceeds from Opening Day will also support our dear friend and colleague, Bob Center. Bob is a long time river lover and supporter who has authored interpretive river guides, played a key role in restoring flows through the FERC relicensing process on numerous rivers throughout the state, and was the Excutive Director of Friends of the River. In short, California rivers are better because of Bob.

In February Bob was badly injured in a road bicycle accident. He is currently in recovery and is showing the spark, intensity and fortitude that all who know him recognize. Reflecting the supportive community that paddlers are known for, CCK, AW and Jackson Kayak are thrilled to pledge a portion of the proceeds towards Bob’s full recovery.

Join us for Opening Day on the River 2015, April 4th, CCK Outpost, Coloma! Special thanks to all of our sponsors for their generous contributions and to all of you for coming out and participating in this fun and memorable whitewater event!

Join AW and support river stewardship nationwide!
