Colorado Update: NISP Hearings This Week

As many of you know, the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP) is a major transbasin diversion and reservoir project planned for the Fort Collins area. It will siphon water from the Upper Colorado river system, and have significant impacts on the health of the Poudre River as it runs through LaPorte and Fort Collins.

This week is the time to make your voice heard at two listening sessions sponsored by the US Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday and Thursday, in Fort Collins and Greeley. The meeting details can be found here.

We're urging all local AW friends and members to show up at these hearings for one simple reason: when the project goes forward, we want to make sure that both environmental and recreational impacts on our rivers are mitigated to the greatest extent possible.

Agencies do listen to the public, especially when we turn up in person. So it's worth taking the time on Wednesday or Thursday evening to show up and let the Army Corps and Northern know that healthy rivers are a major priority for us as paddlers and residents of Northern Colorado. Please share this information widely!
