Volunteers are needed to paddle the Pee Dee River between Tillery Dam and the Highway 109 Access Area (12 miles) in support of a recreational flow releases study hosted by Duke Energy.  The river is flatwater and flows through the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, and is located east of Charlotte, NC.

A new Federal license requires Duke Energy to release flows from the dam for recreation use, but optimal and acceptable flows for releases are not yet known.  Volunteer paddlers will rate 2,800cfs on Friday, 450cfs on Saturday, and 800cfs on Sunday.

Duke Energy has been a great partner in mitigating the effects of their dams on recreation in Western North Carolina.  American Whitewater has not been involved with this dam relicensing, but we encourage interested paddlers to help with the study by participating and/or sharing this notice with regional flatwater paddlers that would enjoy the Pee Dee.

Details on how to participate can be downloaded from the link to the right of this article.
