Wall Street Journal on the Wild and Scenic Merced

The Wall Street Journal released an article today outlining the current threat to the Wild and Scenic Merced River. While the effort to de-designate part of the Wild and Scenic Merced failed to make it through the last Congress, we have every expectation that a bill will be reintroduced this next year.  The Wall Street Journal article correctly describes this as not just a battle for the Merced but rather a threat to the entire Wild and Scenic Rivers system.

American Whitewater has been working with other conservation organizations to ensure that Congress will not, for the first time in its history, de-designate a Wild and Scenic River.  Friends of the River has produced a video that outlines the history of this project and the technical details of how Merced irrigation district is proposing to raise new exchequer Dam. You may also send a note to your congressional representative from this link.  Please let them know that their vote on this bill could affect Wild and Scenic Rivers protection across the country.  Stay tuned and we will keep you posted about any developments in this process.
