Document - Commercial River Use in the State of Colorado
Abstract
River use in the State of Colorado stood at 486,000 users in 2009. The rafting industry was down about 31,000 guests from 2008. This is a 6% drop in use. Use in this mature industry has fluctuated between 460,000 and 540,000 since 1997. This decline is another result of the slow economy. Longer and more expensive trips suffered the biggest decline in 2009. Extremely high or low snowpack was not a factor in this year’s decline. The industry was down slightly in economic impact from 2008, posting the third highest impacts ever at $142 million.Description
