where this lock is the old timbers still lie in bedrock riverbed and you can easily see where it crossed the river in low water. no hazard. just neat history. want more history? ok. slave labor built these locks as a mode of transportation from the chesapeak to buchanan / eagle rock area. then when the railroad became the new thing under president lincoln the locks were scrapped.
