River Description
Monture Creek is an adventure! It starts with a six-mile hike in, some not quite trailside scouting, and then a run that features some quality Class IV paddling, likely some challenging portages, and incredible scenery featuring rose-colored vertical-walled canyons. We walked the final bouldery runout rapid over the ridge, so I am not sure what that one is like (caution). Monture Creek is very pretty, very challenging, and very wild. Certainly not for everyone, but we had fun.
As of July 2020 a series of fires has put a lot of wood into the whole creek, making the crux drops essentially unrunnable, unfortunately I would imagine for some time.

Log in to add a reportCasey Wilcox and I had a fun day in June of 2013 running a fairly good amount of Monture Creek. I'm not sure of the paddling history of the river prior to this run, but we were not aware of any descents. We portaged some wood and the crux (?) bend, but got to run a bunch of fun whitewater in a beautiful little gorge. While a bit of a project with some type-two fun, Monture turned out to be a memorable day and well worth the effort for me. This descent was part of my efforts to document rivers for potential Wild and Scenic designation for American Whitewater, and Monture shined as well worthy of the designation.
