River Description
This tributary of the Chippewa River has a nice bit of gradient. Shorter runs are available to focus on the main gradient which parallels the Arpin Dam/Belille Falls section.
GAUGE INFO: Based on relative drainage areas, flow at our listed put-in could be 0.183 x Chippewa at Winter. Our 'Virtual Gauge' being reported for this section is based upon that calculation. Correlation is not assured.
NOTE: The 'Tuscobia State Trail' (a 74-mile abandoned railroad, now multi-use trail) roughly parallels Hwy.70 from Couderay to Radisson, and could be used to facilitate biked shuttle for the first 5.35 miles of this listed run. (As of this writing, it does NOT appear that any trail fee applies to biking this trail. There are disclaimers that 'bicycling is not recommended. The trail is not groomed or surfaced and
may be rough or soft in many sections. If you plan to bike the trail,
the tread is more suitable for off-road bikes.' )
River Features
Put In
Generally good current and random rocky stretches will populate the first part of the run (down to Hwy.40).
Drainage area: 145 sq.mi.
At our listed put-in drainage is 145 square miles (as calculated by USGS StreamStats v4.3.11).
by the confluence with the Chippewa River it is 184 square miles (an increase of ~27%).
Eddy Creek (confluence, from left)
(Not significant, just a 'waypoint'.)
Also, at this point, Hwy.70 and the Tuscobia Park Trail are both almost immediately on river-left.
Riverside Golf and Recreation
At mile 2, for about a quarter-mile, you will be passing through a golf course.
It appears there is only one bridge spanning the river near the lower end of the course.
(Unknown how much clearance there is ... safe passage may depend upon level.)
N.Weirgor Road
(Merely a waypoint.)
Hwy.40
Another waypoint ... and/or ...
Best access for the final (and steepest, such as it is) gradient.
(Yields a 2.26 mile run.)
Powerlines
(Just another waypoint)
Take Out
A(coupleof?) good-sized island(s) populate the confluence with the Chippewa (below Belille Falls).
Take-out may be done just before the confluence, as Hwy.40 is very near the stream.
Otherwise, continue (just more than 0.7 mile) down the Chippewa to Town Line Road to take out there.
