A wonderful adventure in a wonderful place. The whitewater is sustained, and is typical of the Kalmiopsis, consisting of a continuous descent without any large drops, but lots of fun maneuvering through small boulders and hydraulics.
The access is difficult, but the adventure is rewarding. Here is a report from 2016: 2016/04/08/rough-ready-creek
There is a gate here where most paddlers start their hike from. If it is open, you can drive a little further. Paddlers may also look at access points on the other side of the river.
Headwaters at 2300' near the confluence with an unnamed tributary.
Hike out half mile along the road back to your car if the gate is closed when using this access point. Mark your take out so not to miss it from the river if taking out here instead of the Highway 199 bridge.
