There is a good put-in just below Big Run. You can drive right up to it. 1) From Webster Springs, go 17.4 miles east on 15 and turn left. (This is 1.0 mile west of county line.) 2) Go 0.35 mile and turn left onto hidden road. This may be muddy in wet weather, when you're here. Drive to river. This upper section is Class 2-3, with one nasty log portage just below the put-in, when I was there (2002).
The Webster Springs gauge is located 36 river miles down stream of the put-in on the mainstem of the Elk. Thus this gauge can only be used as an indicator.
Permits are not required for this reach.
We have no additional detail on this route.

If someone gets hurt on a river, or you read about a whitewater-related injury, please report it to
American Whitewater. Don't worry about multiple submissions from other witnesses, as our safety
editors will turn multiple witness reports into a single unified accident report.
Log into the American Whitewater website and you can contribute to river descriptions,
flow and access tips, and maps associated with runs you've done. You can even add new
runs to the inventory!
