River Description

Cody is a great place to live if you like kayaking, because this river offers boating all year long and is great for after work laps. The "Upper" section starts with parking at the pullouts near the tunnels and either taking the "tube" down to the frontage road below or walking down the trail. Walk towards the dam and put in where you feel comfortable. There is a mix of class 2-4 rapids. You can take out at Hayden Arch bridge or continue down stream into the "Canyon" section, which is class 4 at normal flows and class 5 at high flows.

The Canyon section is an awesome run. There are three rapids in succession about a mile from Hayden Arch Bridge. They are called Entrance Exam, Customs, and Iron Curtain. These rapids are easily scouted river right. Nintendo rapid is half way down and has a great place to loop kayaks. Game Boy/Pinball rapid is the final rapid and is a continuous fun drop with multiple lines and can be scouted from river right.

The next section downstream is called the "6 mile". It is a great playboat run with great surfing. The higher the flows, typically the better the surfing. The put in is at the Old Trail Town sign. Follow the gravel road to the parking lot. Take out at the highway 120 bridge.
