Run includes 0.5 mile paddle out (with good current and I-II rips) on Sturgeon. Take-out is a campground on Sturgeon Gorge Road. Parallel watershed of similar size to the Rock River leads one to expect this to be a similar 'hoot.' In general, however, this one disappoints. Much of the early running is prone to snags, and there are more areas of flatwater. (Not sure how it manages to do that, and yet not have areas of bigger gradient which are notable.)
USGS lists a sampling site at our listed putin as having drainage area of 63.1 square miles.
Visual at Hwy.28 put-in. If rock garden rapids look runnable, go for it.
Permits are not required for this reach.
