River Description

The short run above the falls consists of about 3 distinct sets of easy drops, with ok play features at optimal levels, and a 20+ ft waterfall. The best play feature on this section is the hole right above the third drop called Dead Deer Hole. Good eddy on the right. The waterfall is the reason to drive all the way up here! It must not be missed.

This has to be the eaziest waterfall to run over 20 ft in the country. The pool is very deep and that allows you to try any off the lip trick out there. So look at it, get the video camera, and fire it up! If you set ropes it is an easy walk back to the top for multipule runs.

At certain levels a nice riverwide hole forms about 100 ft upstream of the falls. It is shallow but great for spins. In that aspect it is almost as good as Swimmers on the Lower Yough. Just have a good roll because it would not be adviseable to swim due to the fact you do have a 20+ft waterfall downstream. Runnable only after heavy rains.

The Falls

Class - IV Mile - 3

A clean 15 to 20 foot waterfall at the end of the run.  The conservative line is on river right but a middle or even left line is possible depending on water level, and how badly you are willing to take a beat down.

At minimum flow you can still run the far right side of the falls. There is a video of some canoes doing it.

There was a recent fatality on the falls. Someone jumped off the falls and drowned. Took several days to find the body and used up huge amounts of public money. Please keep a low profile for a while and be safe!

Gage Descriptions

The max level has been set at 9 ft but I have run the waterfall at 12ft before. It has some meat to it. I do not know what the rest of the run is like at that level.

New Hydro Project for Cuyahoga (OH)

Thomas O'Keefe

The Cuyahoga River, the river that burned, played a pivotal role in the birth of the nation's river conservation movement. While restoration gains have been significant, a proposal for a new hydropower project on a dam targeted for removal would represent a signficant setback in ongoing restoration efforts and would delay for at least half a century any effort to bring back the lost whitewater that sits buried behind the Ohio Edison Gorge Dam. Paddler participation at upcoming scoping meetings is important.
