River Description

This is a difficult run for most paddlers. Scout 20' waterfall. While all rapids have been run, most people walk a few. Generally a long, hard, rewarding day.

Due to some persons trashing the boy scout camp, we can no longer park on the property. You must park at the turnaround just prior to the camp. The camp ranger is David Michael, phone 256-228-6913.

See also the description in AlabamaWhitewater.com, which points out that the putin is actually on Bryant Creek, which one floats for almost 3 miles before the confluence with Jones.

Named drops include:
Nasty falls
Pencil sharpner
Circle back
the Dog
Lumberjack
Freight Train
Casey Jones
Slots o Luck
Ass-hole

Gage Descriptions

The bridge which had the gauge has been replaced with a new bridge, and there is no gauge yet.

Generally runnable after a good rain of 1" or more.

According to Rob Maxwell
Jones Creek is:
Low when Town Creek is 300 cfs
Medium when Town Creek is 600 to 800 cfs
High when Town Creek is 800 to 1500 cfs
(These levels are when Town Creek is falling)

Another way to correlate Jones is when Little River Canyon is running (over 900 cfs) Jones is usually running.

I have an Excel 2000 spreadsheet that predicts the levels for Jones Creek and several other rivers in the southeast. If you’d like a copy of this spreadsheet e-mail me at H2Olevelcheck@boatingbeta.com and I will send you a copy. I only check this address weekly, so pardon me if I don’t get back to you right away.
