Beware of downed wood in some of the willow jungles.
This is a great class II+ to III creek which is a tighter, steeper and more continuous version of its neigboring Sugar Creek
Take-out: Go South on Hwy 23 from Booneville and turn left on 116 (Jack Creek Road). Continue on this road for 7.4 miles. Shortly after the road enters the National Forest, it comes to an intersection with FS Road 19 (gravel to the right). Turn left to stay on the paved Jack Creek Road and continue for 1.2 miles to the Jack Creek Recreation Area.
Put-in: Go back to Jack Creek Road and turn left, cross over Sugar Creek and got 2.25 miles to the bridge over Jack Creek. There are roads that continue upstream if you wish to extend the run.
An alternative putin can be used. Approximately 1.5 miles upstream of the takeout Jack creek comes close to the Jack creek road. Two trees have been marked with yellow paint to indicate the location of the putin. Putting in at this location avoids a lot of the upstream willow jungles. Parking at this putin is limited.
There is a painted gauge on the downstream side of the middle bridge support over Sugar creek at the Jack Creek Rec Area bridge.
Minimum = 1.5 ft
Optimum = 2 to 3 ft
High = >3 ft
Dutch Creek is a decent reference gauge as it's headwaters are South of Jack's.
Also look for the Petit Jean near Booneville to be going big. (However this gauge reacts slowly, as it is well down on the watershed.
Permits are not required for this reach.
