Rapid Descriptions

North Fork Campground

Class - N/A Mile - 2.2
Rapid Thumbnail Missing

The North Fork Campground is a potential access point next to the NF confluence and a short distance below the middle fork confluence.    There may also be access at the middle fork bridge.

The most continuous and exciting rapids of the run are just downstream.

Gage Descriptions

Since 2007 there has been an online gauge at Rainbow Diversion Dam just below the take out for this section.   This new gauge should make it much easier to catch this section with good flow.   The boatable range shown is a preliminary guess.  (The graph won't show properly without a range)   Use good judgement when you look at the river.    We will refine the boatable range when paddlers send in comments and reports.

In the past, boaters had to use the inflow to Black Butte Reservoir gauge, because it was the only gauge on the creek. Flows in this section are much less than the reservoir inflow gauge.  Some estimates were that it was 60% to 70% of the inflow.  We have left the reservoir inflow gauge so that boaters can compare the actual ratio with past estimates.

Flows at the put in will be much less than at the take out because the middle and north forks are major tributaries that enter in the middle of the run.
