The camping fee for the French Creek Natural Area is $2.00 per person per night. Campers need to register at the self-registration station at the east or west trailhead. You will find a fee envelope in the iron ranger box. Separate the top portion from the fee envelope and place on the dashboard of your vehicle. Insert correct amount into the fee envelope. Deposit it in the appropriate container. Checks are made payable to Custer State Park.
Downstream of this point there are single-track roads which ford (cross through) the streambed, but would obviously not be passable by vehicle during boatable flows. This location is the final bridge before the gorge, and is adjacent to a Horse Campground.

If someone gets hurt on a river, or you read about a whitewater-related injury, please report it to
American Whitewater. Don't worry about multiple submissions from other witnesses, as our safety
editors will turn multiple witness reports into a single unified accident report.
Log into the American Whitewater website and you can contribute to river descriptions,
flow and access tips, and maps associated with runs you've done. You can even add new
runs to the inventory!
