American Whitewater is working with South Feather Power and Water in the FERC relicensing process. We are negotiating to get real time public flow information, and to get recreational whitewater opportunities in this reach. We are also working with the resource agencies to improve the overall health of this river reach. AW did conduct a boating flow study for this reach. Some information from that study is posted in the dreamflows guide linked below.
Other Information Sources: Dreamflows River Guide: S. Feather - Forbestown Gorge
Water flows from the diversion through a tunnel to the north of the reach down to Ponderosa Reservoir. South Feather Water and Power Agency monitors flows and will report spills when they occur.
This South Fork Feather River Basin pdf shows all of the dams, diversions, powerhouses and gauges in this basin. The USGS SF Feather below Forbestown Dam gauge page can show historical flow information about this reach. American Whitewater is working to have this gauge report realtime flows.
Permits are not required for this reach.

If someone gets hurt on a river, or you read about a whitewater-related injury, please report it to American Whitewater. Don't worry about multiple submissions from other witnesses, as our safety editors will turn multiple witness reports into a single unified accident report.
Log into the American Whitewater website and you can contribute to river descriptions, flow and access tips, and maps associated with runs you've done. You can even add new runs to the inventory!
