Apparently also called the 'West Prong Rapid', Colonel Dick's is a busy little affair with a nice entrance

boof up at the top and a critical left-to-right move above that boulder at the bottom.

Coming around that boulder at the bottom is a great place not to be upside down. Smart money either rolls back up

all quick-like --- or prepares for the Level #7 helmet testing program. Helmet companies like Level #7 because the helmet

takes a real solid direct shot at modest speed, and the volunteer notices a good enough smacking around to feel like they

got their money's worth. So everybody's a winner.

Colonel Dick's features a couple alternate choices including three or four eddies with various degrees-of-difficulty, one of them

called the 'Green River Locals Eddy'. Also, going to the left of the boulder at the bottom is ok at higher water, but at normal flows

it just turns into a manky-junky way to broach and bounce around a bit.

This photo is from a low drought 100%, taken a week before the 2008 Green Race -- probably about 6.5' on the gauge. With

actual water in it Colonel Dick's is more of an undertaking than the photo shows, and is a whale of a good time.

Colonel Dick's was named by John Lesan and Snuffy Hall way back in the day, and is the namesake of a disciplinary officer at

The Citadel Military Academy..........a fella they shared some time having run-ins with in between paddling trips.
