Use the USGS gage at Kenyonville not Shelby for runs from Slade Rd putin to Knowlesville Rd takeout (North of RTE 104-about 8.5 mls). The Kenyonville gage is right at the takeout and better shows water conditions for this section as Erie canal water supplements at Medina ensure stable minium water levels during dry seasons. If this flow is reduced (it haapens) you'll be wading between pools. Supplemental canal flow is not reflected at the USGA Shelby gage. This section is class 1 water at best at typical 2.5 ft Kenyonville gage readings. Execellent water for beginners with ample challenges enough to dunk ya but with little water risks as it's commonily less than waist deep for an adult with soft pulverized shale rock bottoms. Flows are sufficent to pin a vessel on rocks/logs or a swimmer in log jams or submerged tree tops. These a minor hazards easily mitigated by awareness.
