Daddy's Creek

This section of Daddy's Creek is 17 miles long, and other than a short class II-II+ stretch a few miles below the top access at Old TN Hwy 28, is mostly flat. The most interesting section starts below Sutton Dam at the Old TN Hwy 28 crossing, and takes out at Hwy 68, for a distance of around 7 miles. The scenery in this top section is better than downstream, and shows less signs of encroachment by developers. Flows required for this upper-most paddleable section of Daddy's requires more water, so look for a minimum of 350-400 cfs on the Daddy's Creek gauge for a reasonable run.

The remainder of the 10-11 miles from Hwy 68, under Hwy 70, and eventually I-40, are almost completely flat, move through an area experiencing increasing development, and takes a long time to paddle, with access at highway bridges not easily managed. As one finally slogs towards the take-out at Chestnut Hill Road Bridge, the signs of movement and Class I riffles begin to develop, only for the bridge to remind you, that you probably should have put in where you're taking out. If you're looking for any degree of whitewater, skip this lower section. Even the best, top section has lots of flatwater at the end - plenty of time to find resolve with the decision that this is a one-and-done experience.
