'This is a Gopro screen capture of a scene that unfolded in the Carbon River gorge near Orting, WA. The Carbon is one of the most amazing, committing, and scary gorges anyone in our group has ever seen. There are about 10 rapids/ledges in a row within the upper gorge without the opportunity to scout or portage any of them. Therefore, a swim in any of these drops will result in swimming the rest of the drops or a truly heroic vertical extraction.

This scene takes place about halfway through the gorge at an infamous ledge called Rick's Slide. Adam ran this blind drop a little too far right and got stuck in what some describe as a 'terminal eddy'. Imagine seeing this crazy situation unfolding as you are at the lip! Adam showed his truly wise river-sense and tapped into his playboating skills to be able to surf out of this eddy after a two minute surf.'

For Rick's Slide, run it far, far river left with a late boof. In the early parts of the gorge where you see a blind, unscoutable, unportagable horizon line, go left.
