Edwards Crossing to Purdon's Crossing, known colloquially as E to P, is a fun Class IV pool-drop run through a small, roadless river canyon. E to P is about four miles long and usually has water in the winter and spring. At medium flows (1,500 cfs), the run is considered a little more difficult than Chamberlain Falls and a little easier than Giant Gap (both local runs on the North Fork American). In general, E to P is a very pretty stretch of California Wild and Scenic river with some great granite ledges for sun bathing. As the temperatures warm up, it is not uncommon to run across sunbathers taking advantage of said granite ledges (very often sans clothes).
Flows: The run is best around 1,000 to 2,000 cfs where, at this flow, there are lots of small waves and holes with good opportunities for boofing.
Minimal flow is +/- 500 cfs where the run gets pretty bony, so be sure to stay upright. At higher flows (2,000 cfs+) things start moving faster and some large holes develop. At above 3,000 cfs the run starts to become shorter than the shuttle, though is still good fun. A good forecast is provided by the California Nevada River Forecast Center.
Logistsics/Misc Info
Take Out: Purdon's Crossing. Parking is on the north side of the river (river right). A short and steep scramble gets you from river level to the road.
Put In: Edward's Crossing. Parking is on the south side of the river (river left). There is a boater access point that provides a nice easy trail to river level.
Shuttle: The shuttle is fairly long (30 to 45 minutes each way) and requires a medium clearance vehicle (Subaru) or good skills dodging rocks in the road. Most run shuttle on the south side of
...From the trailhead on river left you can work your way down on the upstream side of the bridge. Look for the information kiosk and a sign that says 'boater access' at about knee height. From there you can work your way down a good trail to the water and put in just above the rapid visible on the upstream side of the bridge. Scout your line from the bridge. Generally goes best on the right.
Just downstream of the put in, this is a long rapid that is best run on the right of center. Beware of the large hole river left at the bottom of this rapid.
As flows rise, this left handed S-turn forms a pretty nasty hole.
As the name implies, an easy move, but a very ugly consequence. This rapid is most commonly run along the right side of the sieve fence.
Two line options here: (1) a wave train river left, or (2) a lateral to hole boof river right.
Center then finish left for a simpler line, or center, then finish center-right for an interesting boof.
Take out on river right directly below the Purdon's Crossing bridge. The 'trail' is steep and may require growing a third arm to carry your boat while you scramble up the rocky embankment.

We had a great day at just above 500cfs with clear water and warm sun.
While it's absolutely low at this level, we did not find it to be boat abusive or uncomfortably bony. The bedrock character channelizes the flow nicely and even the boulder gardens had plenty of water to navigate the lines cleanly. Someone familiar with the run could abolutely have a fun and clean run at these flows, though another couple hundred CFS would've made some of the boofs cleaner.
