Four of us explored this section on May 25, 2026. There was a lot of wood in play and we portaged 8 logs or log jams in 6 miles between Silver Springs Campground and Skookum Falls Viewpoint, a few of which required longer bushwhacks through the floodplain woods. That was enough for us and we used the easy takeout at the Skookum highway pullout rather than completing the upper section. There was one Class III- rapid just upstream from a high bridge about halfway down, but more skills were required to get around the wood. The gradient in this section is distributed evenly as flows down-cut through loose cobble on both shores most of the way - so eddies are scarce and often you need to run your boat into a shallow area to get out above wood. Higher water would not help. In summary, I can't recommend this one.
