Garlic Mike's to McCabe's

| Flow | High Flow |
Some excellent surfing between Garlic Mike's and the whitewater park at this level (roughly 2,600 cfs, high side of medium). Note that whitewater park features have been rebuilt since previous trip report in 2004. Top hole is shallow and sticky at higher water but can be snuck right or left. Middle feature is an excellent surf wave popular with river surfers, and will give up spins and blunts with the right rider. The bottom feature is a powerful cartwheel/blunt hole at most levels - the wave shown in the photos (red Wave Sport playboat) is no longer there. Psychedelic, the first rapid below the WWP, certainly warrants a III at this level - the top hole is sticky, especially on the left, and the second hole is powerful though flushier. At lower levels the top hole is a pourover and the second hole is more powerful, followed by a third wave-hole. It's human-made so the riverbed isn't pretty, and it's difficult to scout because of private property, but it warrants a boat scout from the slack water in the diversion ditch on river right - just make sure to make the ferry back center to run. See this article in the Gunnison Country Times: https://www.gunnisontimes.com/articles/proceed-at-your-own-risk/. In general, pretty class II-III at this flow with some 'big water'-type currents for newbies to learn on.
