3. Elbow to the 'Y' (Townsend)
January 22, 2006
Trip Report
| Reporter | Michael Coffey |
2.1 miles up from parking lot at the 'Y'
Jim Knowles warns:
Mary's Rock is an undercut boulder and should not be taken lightly as it has serious entrapment risk. It is the most dangerous spot on the Elbow to Y section. The rapid is a class 2+, but paddlers should be aware that the boulder is undercut and the water flows through the rock resurfacing on the back side. Scout and portage on river right. If you are not extremely confident of making the S-turn to miss the undercut boulder, take your boat on the 50' trail.
